Prayers for the Day, Monday

A reading from Psalm 43

3 Send me your light and your faithful care,
let them lead me;
let them bring me to your holy mountain,
to the place where you dwell.
4 Then I will go to the altar of God,
to God, my joy and my delight.
I will praise you with the lyre,
O God, my God.

5 Why, my soul, are you downcast?
Why so disturbed within me?
Put your hope in God,
for I will yet praise him,
my Saviour and my God.

Psalm 43: 3–5 NIV®

Dear God, we thank you for your light and the faithful care that you offer to all your people. We praise you for these and for all the many gifts that you offer us. Grant us the grace and wisdom to follow you faithfully, recognising that you are always with us, and we have only to call on you, through Jesus’ name, for you to meet our needs as faithful followers of your Word. Help us to bring your light to those in need of its enlightenment.

May we always sing your praise and show our love to you joyfully, sharing our joy and the good gifts that you offer us with all those we meet in our daily lives. May our joy be infectious, lifting the spirits of those whom we encounter.

Whenever we are downcast, help us to remember that we need only place our faith and hope in you and you will always shield and protect us. May we recognise that it is through helping to meet the needs of others that we are able to find what we need to lead a fulfilling life as your faithful followers. In our fellowship may we always work closely together to carry out your mission to all our neighbours.

We gather these and all our prayers in the prayer that Jesus taught his disciples:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

Amen
