Gathering Music

Welcome

Almighty God, as we gather, let us be quiet and find your presence.
We rejoice in the mystery of your loving justice.
Help us to understand what your love means, and how we can share that love with others.
In Jesus’ name.

Amen

[Silence]

Welcome to the house of God.
We have come from all the corners of the earth.

Welcome to the hospitality of God.
We come as we are; we bring our life, our stories, our journey.

Welcome, brothers and sisters.
We are the rainbow people of God.

Welcome, chosen people.
May God our companion bind us in his love.

Amen

Hymn: Bless the Lord my soul

Bless the Lord my soul and bless God’s holy name.
Bless the Lord my soul, who leads me into life.

It is God who forgives all your guilt,
who heals every one of your ills,
who redeems your life from the grave,
who crowns you with love and compassion.

Bless the Lord my soul …

The Lord is compassion and love,
slow to anger and rich in mercy.
God does not treat us according to our sins
nor repay us according to our faults.

Bless the Lord my soul …

As a Father has compassion on his children,
the Lord has pity on those who fear him;
for he knows of what we are made.
he remembers that we are dust.

Bless the Lord my soul …

Prayer of Approach

Our Father in heaven, we come to worship you.
We gather as your people.
We seek your kingdom and its outworking among us,
yearning for the world’s sufficiency,
searching for peace and harmony, justice and fairness.
To you, our God, we come.

Amen

Confession

In penitence and sorrow, we offer now our lives to you,
seeking to know your forgiveness and desiring to live by your ways.

Taizé Kyrie

Our words, dear God, are so often hollow and empty,
your word is full and forever, your word promises to forgive us,
it assures us of our freedom from past sins, failings and falterings.
Let us hear now your word and be set free to live our lives for you.

Amen

Prayer of the Week

God of truth uncovered, you trace the sparrow’s flight and plumb the secrets of the heart:
bring our fear and conflict into the light of your presence,
so that we may lose our hollow life and find our way to you;
through Jesus Christ, the master and the slave.

Amen

Ministry of the Word

Psalm 138: 6–8

Read by Kate Abrahams

6 Though the Lord is exalted, he looks kindly on the lowly;
though lofty, he sees them from afar.
7 Though I walk in the midst of trouble,
you preserve my life.
You stretch out your hand against the anger of my foes;
with your right hand you save me.
8 The Lord will vindicate me;
your love, Lord, endures for ever –
do not abandon the works of your hands.

NIV®

This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Luke 11: 1–4

Jesus’ Teaching on Prayer

1 One day Jesus was praying in a certain place. When he finished, one of his disciples said to him, ‘Lord, teach us to pray, just as John taught his disciples.’

2 He said to them, ‘When you pray, say:

‘ “Father,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come.
3 Give us each day our daily bread.4 Forgive us our sins,
for we also forgive everyone who sins against us.
And lead us not into temptation.

NIV®

This is the Gospel of Christ.
Praise to Christ our light.

Meditation

[your will be done]’

[Silence]

Stay with me.
Remain here with me.
Watch and pray.
Watch and pray.
Stay with me.

‘Give us each day our daily bread …’

[Silence]

Stay with me.
Remain here with me.
Watch and pray.
Watch and pray.
Stay with me.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

Amen

Hymn: Take my life, and let it be

Take my life, and let it be
consecrated, Lord, to thee;
take my moments and my days,
let them flow in ceaseless praise.

Take my hands, and let the move
at the impulse of thy love love.
Take my feet, and let the be
swift and purposeful for thee.

Take my voice, and let it sing
always, only, for my King.
Take my intellect, and use
every power as thou shalt choose.

Take my will, and make it thine,
it shall be no longer mine.
Take my heart; it is thine own;
it shall be thy royal throne.

Take my love; my Lord, I pour
at thy feet its treasure-store.
Take myself, and I will be
ever, only, all for thee.
