Welcome and Greetings

Call to Worship

Come, let us worship God, Creator, Christ, and Holy Spirit,
who made the heavens and the earth and cares for each one of us.
We marvel at the works of God’s hands,
who crowns us with love and purpose.

Jesus promises the Spirit to guide us into all truth,
so we come, ready to listen and learn.
Let us praise our majestic God,
whose glory shines in all creation
and whose wisdom leads us day by day.

Amen

Hymn: All my hope on God is founded

All my hope on God is founded;
he doth still my trust renew.
Me through change and chance he guideth,
only good and only true.
God unknown,
he alone
calls my heart to be his own.

God’s great goodness aye endureth
deep his wisdom, passing thought:
splendour, light, and life attend him,
beauty springeth out of naught.
Evermore
from his store
new-born worlds rise and adore.

Daily doth th’Almighty giver
bounteous gifts on us bestow;
his desire our soul delighteth,
pleasure leads us where we go.
Love doth stand
at his hand;
joy doth wait on his command.

Still from man to God eternal
sacrifice of praise be done,
high above all praises praising
for the gift of Christ his Son.
Christ doth call
one and all:
ye who follow shall not fall.

Thanksgiving and Confession

God of wonder, we thank you for the beauty of your creation and for the love you show to all people.
You have made us with care and crowned us with honour,
and you are always with us, guiding us by your Spirit.
Thank you for Jesus, who shows us your love, and for your Spirit, who helps us understand your truth.
We confess that we forget how precious your gifts are.
Sometimes we do not care for your world or for each other as we should.
Forgive us when we ignore your voice or trust our own ways more than yours.
Renew us by your Spirit, so that we may live with gratitude,
care for your creation, and follow where you lead.

Amen

Kyrie

Prayer of the Week

Holy God, you have made all things and crowned us with your love.
By your Spirit, guide us into your truth and help us care for your creation
and each other with grateful hearts.
Through Jesus Christ, who shows us your love,
and with the Spirit who leads us, help us live as your faithful people, now and always.

Amen

Psalm 8

Read by Peter Mutuku Kioklo

1 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!

You have set your glory
in the heavens.
2 Through the praise of children and infants
you have established a stronghold against your enemies,
to silence the foe and the avenger.
3 When I consider your heavens,
the work of your fingers,
the moon and the stars,
which you have set in place,
4 what is mankind that you are mindful of them,
human beings that you care for them?

5 You have made them a little lower than the angels
and crowned them with glory and honour.
6 You made them rulers over the works of your hands;
you put everything under their feet:
7 all flocks and herds,
and the animals of the wild,
8 the birds in the sky,
and the fish in the sea,
all that swim the paths of the seas.

9 Lord, our Lord,
how majestic is your name in all the earth!<‘span>

Hymn: Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
early in the morning our song shall rise to thee;
holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessèd Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore thee,
casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
which wert and art and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide thee,
though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see,
only thou art holy, there is none beside thee
perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
all thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea;
holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessèd Trinity!

John 16: 12–16

Read by Stuart Kean

12 ‘I have much more to say to you, more than you can now bear. 13 But when he, the Spirit of truth, comes, he will guide you into all the truth. He will not speak on his own; he will speak only what he hears, and he will tell you what is yet to come. 14 He will glorify me because it is from me that he will receive what he will make known to you. 15 All that belongs to the Father is mine. That is why I said the Spirit will receive from me what he will make known to you.’

The disciples’ grief will turn to joy

16 Jesus went on to say, ‘In a little while you will see me no more, and then after a little while you will see me.’

This is the Gospel of Christ.
Praise to Christ our light.

Affirmation of Faith

We believe in God the Creator,
who made the world in beauty and crowns us with love and care.

We believe in Jesus Christ,
God’s Son, who shows us God’s love and teaches us to walk in truth.

We believe in the Holy Spirit,
who guides us, helps us understand God’s ways,
and leads us into all truth.

We trust that God, Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
calls us to care for creation and for one another,
and to live with gratitude and love, now and always.

Prayers of Intercession

Led by Maggie Kean

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

Amen

Hymn: Father, we love you

Father, we love you,
we worship and adore you,
glorify you name in all the earth.
Glorify you name, glorify you name,
glorify you name in all the earth.

Jesus, we love you, …

Spirit, we love you, …

Sharing Peace

God, who is Father, Son, and Holy Spirit,
calls us to share love and peace with one another.

And so I say to you, my dear friends:
May the peace of our Lord Jesus Christ be always with you.
And also with you.

Let us share God’s peace using our agreed protocols.

Offertory Prayer

Gracious God, all abundance flows from your endless love.
We humbly present these offerings – both those given today and those already shared –
asking for your blessing as we build your kingdom through this church and beyond.
May these gifts serve your purpose and bring light to all corners of your world.

Amen

Hymn: How deep the Father’s love for us

How deep the Father’s love for us,
how vast beyond all measure,
that he should give his only Son
to make a wretch his treasure.
How great the pain of searing loss –
the Father turns his face away,
as wounds which mar the chosen one
bring many sons to glory.

Behold the man upon a cross,
my sin upon his shoulders;
ashamed, I hear my mocking voice
call out among the scoffers.
It was my sin that held him there
until it was accomplished;
his dying breath has brought me life –
I know that it is finished.

I will not boast in anything,
no gifts, no power, no wisdom;
but I will boast in Jesus Christ,
his death and resurrection.
Why I should I gain from his reward?
I cannot give an answer,
but this I know with all my heart,
his wounds have paid my ransom.
