What Is Truth?

In John 18, Jesus tells Pontius Pilate,

‘The reason I was born and came into the world is to testify to the truth. Everyone on the side of truth listens to me.’

Pilate replies with a question,

‘What is truth?’

In his book entitled Saving Christianity Michael Yussef comments,

Apparently, Jesus saw a dismissive attitude in that question, so he left it unanswered. But to his disciples, who honestly hungered for the truth, Jesus affirmed again and again what the truth is and why the truth is so important.

In John 14:6 Jesus states,

‘I am the Way, and the Truth and the Life. No one comes to the Father, except through me.’

The search for truth and reality ends in Christ, and to know Jesus is to know God.

Let us pray:

Father God, you called us to be salt and light; salt preserves and light illuminates.
During this tragic time, people are searching for answers.
Help us in humility, and reverence before you and your Word to defend your Truth and proclaim it.
The Bible speaks for itself because all Scripture is God –breathed.
We are not called to ‘reinterpret it’ to suit the world because as Christians
‘we are in the world but not of the world’.
Paul speaks about our being rooted in Christ
just as plants get nourishment from their roots,
so we get life-giving faith from Christ, through reading His Word.
Father, please strengthen us in our faith;
give us grace, love and compassion
to demonstrate and share your message of truth with others.

Amen
