Morning Prayers Saturday, 25 April 2020

6 On this mountain the Lord Almighty will prepare
            a feast of rich food for all peoples,
a banquet of aged wine –
            the best of meats and the finest of wines.
7 On this mountain he will destroy
            the shroud that enfolds all peoples,
the sheet that covers all nations;
                8 he will swallow up death for ever.
The Sovereign Lord will wipe away the tears
            from all faces;
he will remove his people’s disgrace
            from all the earth.

The Lord has spoken.

9 In that day they will say,

‘Surely this is our God;
we trusted in him, and he saved us.
This is the Lord, we trusted in him;
let us rejoice and be glad in his salvation.’

Isaiah 25: 6–9

Dear Lord our God, grant that we may always put our trust in you, and let us rejoice and be glad in your salvation, brought to us by the death and resurrection of your Son our Saviour, Jesus Christ. We thank you, that you have destroyed the bonds that would have held us tight, and have swallowed up death for ever.

As we prepare ourselves for whatever this day will bring us, we pray that you loving care will protect and sustain us.

Grant that we may be ready to share your love with all those whom we encounter today, our families and loved ones, friends, neighbours and the strangers we may meet as we go about our restricted lives. Help us to remember all those who may welcome a call from us, by whatever means, so that they may know that we are thinking of them, even though we may not be able to meet them in person.

We summarise all our prayers by saying together the words that Jesus taught us:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

Amen
