The Glory of the Lord in Creation

O Lord, our Lord, how excellent is your name in all the earth!

Psalm 8 begins and ends with that verse. The Psalmist speaks of the greatness of God, which assures the worth of mankind. God, the all-powerful Creator, cares for His most valuable creation – people. Then God said,

Then God said, ‘Let us make mankind in our image, in our likeness, so that they may rule over the fish in the sea and the birds in the sky, over the livestock and all the wild animals, and over all the creatures that move along the ground.’

Genesis 1: 26

God made us a little lower than the angels and there is a distinct separateness of man and animal.

Almighty God, during this time when we are forced to isolate ourselves,
help us to see you with fresh eyes,
to praise, please and thank you for life:
the beauty, variety and colour in our world.
May we see the world which you created with fresh eyes
and take seriously our responsibility for stewardship of the earth.

Father, help us to see each other with fresh eyes.
We pray for the health, well-being and safety
of the millions of people who are committed to serving
through hospitals, nursing, and care homes,
supermarkets, pharmacies, postal services,
transport of people and goods,
the  security services;
and companies that are making PPE for the NHS.

Father, calm and heal persons suffering from the coronavirus,
and comfort the families of those who have died
as they mourn the loss of loved ones.
Please give wisdom to the Prime Minister and Members of Parliament
as they make decisions and guide the nation
through this extremely challenging period.

Amen

Wishing you a peaceful and restful night.
