Evening Prayers Saturday, 2 May 2020

A reading from Psalm 63, written by David when he was in the Desert of Judah

2 I have seen you in the sanctuary
       and beheld your power and your glory.
3 Because your love is better than life,
       my lips will glorify you.
4 I will praise you as long as I live,
       and in your name I will lift up my hands.
5 I will be satisfied as with the richest of foods;
       with singing lips my mouth will praise you.

6 On my bed I remember you;
       I think of you through the watches of the night.
7 Because you are my help,
       I sing in the shadow of your wings.
8 I cling to you;
your right hand upholds me.

Psalm 63: 2–8

Loving Father, like David, hiding in the desert for fear of his enemies, we feel trapped and isolated. Let us, like David, recognise your power and glory, that your love is, indeed more precious than life, and we shall sing your praises as long as we live.

As this day draws to a close, let us look back on it and reflect on what the day has brought us. We thank you for all the good things that we have experienced, and we place in your hands all the troubles that may have beset us and our loved ones.

May this evening be a time of quiet reflection. Let us remember in our prayers all our family, whether at home with us, or far away; let us remember all our friends, wherever they may be. We give thanks to you for the fellowship of the community that is your Church of Christ the Cornerstone; may we continue to cherish and sustain one another, even in our separation.

When we go to bed tonight, we will remember you and through the watches of the night we will rest in the shadow of your wings.

We end our prayers this evening by saying the Grace together:

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with us all, evermore.

Amen
