Evening Prayers Saturday, 16 May 2020

A reading from John’s Gospel:

27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.

28 ‘You heard me say, “I am going away and I am coming back to you.” If you loved me, you would be glad that I am going to the Father, for the Father is greater than I. 29 I have told you now before it happens, so that when it does happen you will believe.

John 14: 27–29

Tonight, dear Lord, we pray for peace:
we ask that the peace Jesus leaves with us
will comfort us and all those we love.
We pray for this peace for those households
who are finding confinement increasingly intolerable;
we pray that your love will protect them
and guide them in paths of harmony.

We thank you, dear Father,
that although Jesus ascended to be with you in heaven,
he is still with us in our lives, however messy they may be.
Grant that we may feel his loving presence with us,
even in the darkest times.

Guard us through the hours of darkness, tonight,
and all the days and nights of our lives.

Into your hands we commit ourselves.

We end our prayers this evening by saying the Grace together:

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with us all, evermore.

Amen

Finally, a Benediction. Please join in:

May God’s blessing surround you tonight,
as you trust Him and walk in His light.
May His presence within guard and keep you from sin,
go in peace, go in joy, go in love.
