Evening Prayer Tuesday, 30 March 2021

Good evening at the end of another day on our journey to Easter.

As for me, I will call upon God
and the Lord will deliver me.
In the evening and in the morning and at noonday
I will pray and make my supplication
and he will hear my voice.
He shall redeem my soul in peace.

Psalm 55: 16–18a

As the day draws to its end, we come to you O Brother Jesus;
you, who understand us so much better than we do ourselves;
you, accept us even in our brokenness;
you, who walk with the wounded and the weary along the road of our world’s suffering;
you, who offer grace and healing for the bruised people and places of our time;
you, whose Spirit illumines even the darkest night;

We come. Yes, we come Lord, just as we are, we come.

Iona prayer book

As our evening prayer rises before you, O God,
so may your mercy come down upon us
to cleanse our hearts and set us free to sing your praise
now and for ever.

Amen

By contrast the fruit of the Spirit is, love joy, peace, patience, kindness, generosity, faithfulness, gentleness and self-control. There is no law against such things and those who belong to Christ Jesus have crucified the passions and desires. If we live by the Spirit, let us also be guided by the Spirit. Let us not become conceited, competing against one another, envying one another.

May I never boast about anything except the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ, by which the world has been crucified to me, and I to the world.

Galatians 5: 22–26 & 6: 14

Guide and friend of every seeking heart,
you take upon yourself all that burdens our lives,
our days of doubt, our divided hearts,
our physical weakness and that fear of the future which is often our companion;
and you transform them freeing us of all that weighs us down.

Lord of the perplexed, enable us to rediscover your amazing truth –
that in your strength we can truly begin to walk anew
with lightened step and clearer vision
moving from the shadows into the clear flowing waters of your healing gentle grace.

Amen

Christ the healer we give you thanks for places of healing all over the world.
Places where we can be still and discover afresh
the wonder and immensity of your love.
Thank you for the variety and richness of our individual stories
and the weaving of your presence through our lives.

Amen

Abide with us, Lord, for it is evening and the day is drawing to a close.
Abide with us and your whole church in the evening of the day,
in the evening of life, in the evening of the world;
abide with us and with all your faithful ones, O Lord in time and in eternity.

Amen
