A reading from Psalm 48

1 Great is the Lord, and most worthy of praise,
in the city of our God, his holy mountain.

2 Beautiful in its loftiness,
the joy of the whole earth,
like the heights of Zaphon is Mount Zion,
the city of the Great King.
3 God is in her citadels;
he has shown himself to be her fortress.

8 As we have heard,
so we have seen
in the city of the Lord Almighty,
in the city of our God:
God makes her secure
for ever.

9 Within your temple, O God,
>we meditate on your unfailing love.
10 Like your name, O God,
your praise reaches to the ends of the earth;
your right hand is filled with righteousness.
11 Mount Zion rejoices,
the villages of Judah are glad
because of your judgments.

12 Walk about Zion, go round her,
count her towers,
13 consider well her ramparts,
view her citadels,
that you may tell of them
to the next generation.

14 For this God is our God for ever and ever;
he will be our guide even to the end.

Psalm 48: 1–3 & 8–14 NIV®

Dear God, we praise you for your greatness and your steadfastness;
we praise you in Christ the Cornerstone, in the streets of Milton Keynes and in our homes.
Your Church of Christ the Cornerstone is built of living stones:
we who come together in community day by day to pray to you and to give thanks to you for your loving kindness.
This living temple is the citadel and you are our fortress; you have made us secure – for ever.
Here in this living temple, we meditate on your unfailing love.

As we go about the beautiful city of Milton Keynes, as we travel down its grid roads and navigate its roundabouts,
as we walk down its red ways and through its leafy parks, we pray that we may make Milton Keynes a City Alive to God.
As Jeremiah advised the exiles in Babylon, we seek the peace and prosperity of the city in which you have placed us,
and we pray to you for Milton Keynes, that all its people will prosper.
We pray for Citizens:MK, MK Community Foundation, Community Action: MK, the YMCA Milton Keynes, the Christian Foundation
and all the many groups and organisations who are working to try to ensure that all the citizens of your city prosper and flourish,
and that none are left behind.
We pray that you will guide us every step of the way, so that we may work with you for the good of all your people.

We ask all these prayers in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ.

Amen
