Evening Prayer Friday, 5 June 2020

Lord, as we arrive at the close of another Friday under restriction,
we come to you in praise and prayer.

Thank you, Lord, for the beauty of our environment:
the colour, sound and movement of flower, leaf and chirpy birds.
We can absorb them all in detail at the approach of sunset.

A Psalm of Praise at evening

Lord, your unfailing love reaches to the heavens,
your faithfulness to the skies.
Your righteousness is like the lofty mountains,
your justice like the great deep;
Lord who saves man and beast,
how precious is your unfailing love!
Gods and frail mortals seek refuge in the shadow of your wings.
They are filled with the rich plenty of your house
and you give them to drink from the stream of your delights;
for with you is the fountain of life
and by your light we see light.

Psalm 36: 5–9

Lord, we gather up our hurt and the sorrows of this week to lay at your feet:
Our horror at happenings in the United States,
our sorrow that such hatred could be festering here,
our fear of sickness making us suspicious of every passer-by,
our worry for people who nurse and provide for us daily.
Bring calm to the fierce fighting,
comfort those who grieve,
protect those who care
and break down the hatred of the care-less.

Your Grace is on the other side of grief.
Strengthen our resolve to live in community
according to your word and your ways.

As Jesus taught us, we pray:

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name.
Your kingdom come.
Your will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread
and forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Save us in the time of trial
and deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom,
the power and the glory
are yours, now and for ever.

Amen

In light of the moon and stars
we prepare for refreshing sleep.
Lord, keep us through the night
and bring us safely to the morning.

May the Grace of our Lord Jesus Christ
and the Love of God
and the Fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with us all evermore.

Amen
