Evening Prayer Friday, 23 July 2021

Good evening, everyone.  Welcome to Friday evening’s prayers.

We begin this evening with a reading from Psalm 145: 10-18:

10 All your works praise you, Lord;
your faithful people extol you.
11 They tell of the glory of your kingdom
and speak of your might,
12 so that all people may know of your mighty acts
and the glorious splendour of your kingdom.
13 Your kingdom is an everlasting kingdom,
and your dominion endures through all generations.

The Lord is trustworthy in all he promises
and faithful in all he does.
14 The Lord upholds all who fall
and lifts up all who are bowed down.
15 The eyes of all look to you,
and you give them their food at the proper time.
16 You open your hand
and satisfy the desires of every living thing.

17 The Lord is righteous in all his ways
and faithful in all he does.
18 The Lord is near to all who call on him,
to all who call on him in truth.

This evening’s psalm reminds us that we see the hand of God in everything around us
and that he will be there to support us whatever difficulties or successes come our way.

And so, we pray:
Thanks and praise to you, O God, for the constancy of your love and protection. We are so grateful that you are there whatever life brings and whatever the future holds. Teach us to be faithful to you, and to use this assurance to open our hearts to others and our ears to respond to the prompting of your voice.

This evening, we pray for all those who are facing challenges – especially those who face them alone. We pray that they may have faith in you and may be comforted by a sense of your presence with them.

Grant them your peace, O Lord.

We pray too for those who care for others – support them and uphold them as they seek to bring comfort and healing to those who are in pain, in body, mind or spirit.

Grant them your peace, O Lord.

We pray for all who are lonely or isolated – bring joy and comfort to them and the confidence to reach out to others who may be able to offer them support and companionship.

Give them the knowledge of your presence with them.

We thank you for the initiative of the Mission Task Force and pray that the whole Congregation will be inspired to take an active part to help us create an Oasis of Hope in Central Milton Keynes.

Show each of us what our role will be to bring this initiative to life.

Give us energy and commitment to fulfil your vision in this place.
