Prayers for the Day, Wednesday

As most of us did; I attended the Act of Remembrance service this week commemorating service members who died in wars and other military conflicts since the onset of World War One. It made me reflect on effects of wars and felt sad that despite the day signifying the end of a war; we unfortunately on our watches today continue to see conflicts and wars occurring and many more service members and civilians dying. The question that came to mind was, where is God in all this?   His Word asks us to have peace and to love one another. I believe John 14’s message is aimed for humankind’s restoration, comforting one another, agreeing with one another and to live in peace and by God’s grace His love and peace will be within us.  The British National Anthem ends with words;

“……May God’s mercies be known from shore to shore.  Lord make the nations see that men should brothers be and form one family the wide world over”

Psalm 133 :1-3

1. How good and pleasant it is when God’s people live together in unity!
2. It is like precious oil poured on the head, running down on the beard,
running down on Aaron’s beard, down on the collar of his robe.
3. It is as if the dew of Hermon were falling on Mount Zion.
For there the Lord bestows his blessing, even life forevermore.”

The Psalm is telling us that God is the source of living together in unity as a gift of His grace. For in Him our soul is refreshed and we are equipped to edify others, which glorifies our Father in heaven. As we live the gospel and love and serve others, we feel oneness with our brothers and sisters and more in tune divinely knitted together as the family of our Eternal Father. It gives God the pleasure to see us living in unity.

Let’s us Pray

Heavenly Father we come before your throne this morning in penitence and faith for reconciliations between nations that all people may together live in freedom, justice and peace. We pray for all who in bereavement, disability and pain continue to suffer the consequences of fighting and terror.  We remember with thanks giving and sorrow those whose lives, in world wars and conflicts past and present, have been given and taken away.   We are grateful that they gave their lives for our today and they will forever be remembered.

Lord God, we pray that we may learn to live together as brothers and sisters in Christ in Godly love and unity, to your praise and glory. Protect us from wanton discord, disunity, or division, and help all your children to stand firm in the faith, because through the death and Resurrection of our Lord Jesus Christ, we who are saved are all united together in Him. May we honour Him by living in harmony.

Today we remember our brothers and sister in all nations of world where there is conflict, unrest or oppression.  We pray that reconciliation will overcome hatred, peace will conquer war and hope will replace despair. May your plans for the world and for us your people be fulfilled according to your will. Give wisdom to all those in authority and responsibility to do all that they can to bring about a better, fairer, more just world.

We pray for all who accept responsibility for leadership and decision-making in the affairs of our nation.  May those who represent us in government be men and women of integrity, who keep their promises and lead us in the ways of justice and compassion as we face continued spiralling high costs of living with a tough winter ahead of us.

Lord God, we thank you for the good things we share with our friends and families, for love and friendship, for food and shelter, for happiness and laughter. We remember and pray especially for many faced with hard decision of whether to put food on the table or pay bills today. We are saddened to hear of the dwindling stocks in Food Banks.  When we find it difficult to know what to do, give us grace to make the right decisions in making a difference in other people lives.   We thank you for the initiatives from communities providing Food Banks, Lunch Groups, Warm Rooms, Toddler Groups  and many other community support being delivered to support and protect those in need and vulnerable.

Lord God awaken in us a renewed commitment to care for the earth and each other. We pray for churches around the world to be committed to praying and speaking out on climate change and how to care for our global neighbours. We pray for your wisdom to be creativity and energy in how churches can raise awareness of this issue in their congregations and communities. We pray that people will be inspired by the church coming together to raise awareness of this issue and will lead to good conversations and that God will be glorified.

God of mercy inspire the world leaders at COP27 with openness to listen to those most affected by climate change and with courage to act urgently and wisely so that our common home may be healed and restored and all people and generations to come, may delight in it.

Loving Father, from whose mighty hands all life and healing come, we pray for all who are in pain or suffering at this time. We remember especially those facing long and incurable illnesses. In a moment of quietness we remember those known to us by their names and those unknown who are in any kind of need at this time.

God our Father, you are the source of all health and healing, all strength and peace. Teach us to know you more truly and trust you more firmly. Take from us all that hinders your healing power, all anxieties and fears, and help us in our weakness to rest in your love.

Almighty God, we ask for your presence in all things we will do today in our body and mind with gladness and thanksgiving.  May all we do be according to your plans and we be your true ambassadors for your Name to be glorified.  In your great love, keep us near you this day.  Grant that in all our ways and doings we may remember that you see us, bless us and in your mercy we receive your Grace to know and perceive what things you would have us to do, and give us strength to the same; we give you honour and praise In Jesus’ Mighty Name.

Merciful Father
Accept these prayers for the sake of your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread. And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory,
for ever and ever.
Amen.

Blessings. Have a Wonderful Day.
