Daily Prayers Friday, 25 February 2022
Since I started thinking about these prayers on Wednesday, the news has been totally taken over by the developments in Ukraine. So I have decided to focus our thoughts on all those who feel threatened and whose lives are at risk. We pray:
Loving God it feels as if the world has been turned upside down. At times like this, we cannot thank you enough that we have the security of knowing that, however things appear to us, you are in control.
We pray for our brothers and sisters across the world who face the prospect of war and all that means to disrupt their way of life, restrict their choices and perhaps lead to the loss of loved ones. Give them strength and courage as they face uncertainty. Comfort those who experience loss and grief.
Lord, in your mercy
Hear our prayer.
We pray for all political leaders, as they take far-reaching decisions and for all those who will be impacted by the decisions they take. As we watch and wait, keep us calm and trusting in your unfailing love and care.
May we be inspired by Christ’s teaching and example and may your holy spirit be at work transforming each of us day by day,
We ask this and all our prayers in the name of Jesus Christ, our Lord and Saviour.
Amen
We hear the words of Jesus, from St John’s Gospel:
Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.
(John 14:27)
And now, a hymn:
For the healing of the nations

For the healing of the nations,
Lord, we pray with one accord;
for a just and equal sharing
of the things that earth affords.
To a life of love in action
help us rise and pledge our word.
Lead your people into freedom,
from despair your world release,
that, redeemed from war and hatred,
all may come and go in peace.
Show us how, through care and goodness,
fear will die and hope increase.
All that kills abundant living,
let it from the earth be banned:
pride of status, race or schooling,
dogmas that obscure your plan.
In our common quest for justice
may we hallow life’s brief span.
You, Creator-God, have written
your great name on humankind;
for our growing in your likeness,
bring the life of Christ to mind;
that by our response and service
earth its destiny may find.
Let us close by saying the Grace together:
May the Grace of our Lord, Jesus Christ and the love of God and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit be with us all, evermore.
Amen
