Category: Prayer of the Week
Christ our Saviour, who at your first coming sent your messenger to prepare your way before you:
grant that we, who follow you today as modern disciples may likewise so prepare and make ready your way
by turning the hearts of the disobedient to the wisdom of the just,
that at your second coming to judge the world we may be found an acceptable people in your sight and inherit the Kingdom with you.
Amen
Loving God, you sent you Son to destroy the plans of the evil one
and to make us co-heirs of eternal life:
grant that we, having this hope, may purify ourselves even as he is pure;
that when he shall appear in power and great glory
we may be made like him in his eternal and glorious kingdom;
where he is alive and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Amen
Christ our redeemer, you came, so that we might know we are yours by choice;
loved, embraced, saved and welcomed to your family and precious in your sight.
In this Advent, draw us together in unity that our praise and worship
might echo in these walls and also through our lives.
You came, so that we might be made complete, draw us together in mission,
that the hope within might be the song we sing, and the melody of our lives.
Amen
Christ the King of our hearts, our scripture stories tell us, you are a shepherd to the lost and the least.
Teach us to see your face among the poor; feeding the hungry, giving drink to the thirsty,
welcoming the stranger, clothing the naked, and visiting those who are sick or in prison –
so that we may share in your eternal realm prepared from the foundation of the world;
and wait with eager expectation for your second coming to reign with justice, compassion, and love.
Amen
[Minister] God of all nations; we pray for those who have been injured or disabled through war;
[Men] for those who have lost homes and security through conflict;
for those who have lost loved relatives in wars;
for those who face danger and take risks for peace.
[Women] We pray for all those, especially children, caught up in current conflicts;
for refugees and all those in need of aid and other help.
[Minister] God of encouragement and Saviour of the despairing,
[All] Comfort those who remember past sacrifices
and guide us in building a just and peaceful community for all.
Amen
Living God, you created us as a people
and claimed us for your own by the precious blood of your Son and our Lord.
As we come before you this day to acknowledge your Sovereignty and grace,
and to renew our covenant with you and our brothers and sisters,
we pray that you will reveal any reluctance or falsehood within us.
Let your Spirit impress the truth of your desire for us to be one with each other
as you are One with Christ.
Amen
God, our parent, teacher, mentor and guide,
may we come to you with enquiring hearts, eager to learn,
confident that you will never reject our smallest question,
and willing to walk with you in faith when no answers can be given.
Amen
Creator God, you crown the year with your goodness
and you give us the fruits of the earth in their season:
grant that we may use them to your glory and for the relief of those in need and for our own wellbeing;
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord who showed compassion on those who were hungry.
Amen
Loving God, you are the source of life and strength;
we approach you with longing hearts and weary bodies.
Mercifully we lift our faces to see you, even when the world is puzzling and unclear.
Teach us to be patient as we wait for your response.
We know that you hear all our prayers, however they are made and whoever we are.
Give us faith to trust your awesome love and care for us.
Amen
Compassionate God, who sent Jesus Christ to deliver us from all manner of injustices and inequalities,
create in us new hearts and enlarged visions, to see the image of God in every person
irrespective of background, race and ethnicity.
May we be generous in our love of others
as we work towards ending misunderstanding, racism and injustice;
creating communities of human flourishing,
through Jesus Christ your Son our Lord who is alive and reigns with you,
in the unity of the Holy Spirit, one God, now and for ever.
Amen
The stone which the builders rejected has become the headstone of the corner.
This is the Lord’s doing: and it is marvellous in our eyes
We pray that this place continues to inspire us and those who come after us
in the service of God’s people in this city, and in the praise of God’s Name.
Almighty God, to whose glory we have dedicated this house of prayer:
we praise you for the many blessings you have given to us;
and we pray that all who find you in this place
may be filled with the holy Spirit and may become a living temple
acceptable to you; through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
Holy God, as we try to live our lives as Jesus did,
fill us with a longing for justice, and give us generous hearts.
Help our actions to show that we really do want your kingdom to come,
here and now, and not just in heaven.
Amen
Merciful Father and Lord of all life,
we praise you that we are made in your image and reflect your truth and light.
We thank you for the life of our late Sovereign Lady Queen Elizabeth,
for the love she received from you and showed among us.
Above all, we rejoice at your gracious promise to all your servants, living and departed,
that we shall rise again at the coming of Christ.
And we ask that in due time we may share with your servant Elizabeth that clearer vision
promised to us in the same Christ our Lord;
who is alive and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit, one God, world without end.
Amen
God of love,
We thank you for the life of the Queen,
for her service to our nation,
and for her faith in you.
Be close to all of us who mourn,
that we may we find comfort and hope in your love,
through Jesus Christ our Lord.
Amen
God of perfect wisdom,
we approach you acknowledging your holy love and your perfect intent for our lives.
We gather to discern, to hear your voice, to recognise your Spirit’s leading.
Give us ears to listen, we pray.
Amen
