Prayer of the Week 18 April 2021

God our Father,
may we look forward with hope to our resurrection,
for you have made us your sons and daughters,
and restored the joy of our youth.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you and the Holy Spirit,
one God, for ever and ever.
Amen

Prayer of the Week 11 April 2021

We come, Lord, from a world confused about truth.
We come with our own uncertainties into the presence of God, who is light.
Let us bring the story of our search for truth and share in fellowship the things we have heard, seen and touched.
Amen

Prayer of the Week 4 April 2021

God of resurrection, ever renewing, ever reviving,
we adore you for your life-giving presence.
Son of Man, newly risen, sorrow made joy,
we adore you for your sacrificial living and dying.
Holy Spirit, breezing among us this Easter morn,
we adore you for breathing new life into us.
Amen

Prayer of the Week 28 March 2021

God who calls us on our journey, as we remember Jesus’ time in the wilderness,
help us to cast aside those things that get in the way of hearing your word.
Help us to seek you in the places of bounteous beauty and of barren bleakness.
Help us to seek you in the faces of friends and in the smiles of strangers.
Help our devotion to be made real in the actions of our lives.
When we have looked deep into our own hearts and struggled with who we are,
send angels to minister to us and draw us out from our own wilderness
to fulfil our calling to serve you.
In Christ’s name.
Amen

Prayer of the Week 14 February 2021

Almighty God, we ask you to show us something more
of who you are and how awesome your presence is.
Overcome our fear of the unknown and lead us into a new experience of you.
May our worship today be as on a mountain-top,
a transforming encounter that empowers our discipleship.
Amen

Prayer of the Week 7 February 2021

Set us free, O God, from the bondage of our sins,
and give us the liberty of that abundant life
which you have made known to us in your Son our Saviour Jesus Christ;
who lives and reigns with you, in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
one God, now and for ever.
Amen

Prayer of the Week 31 January 2021

Christ the living word;
you are the source of all authority in heaven and on earth.
All that is and was, was made through you.
When you spoke in the synagogue, everyone was astonished by your authority
and the integrity of your words.
You spoke your sacrificial authority on the cross
and thereby broke the barriers created by sins.
Help us, who are imprisoned by the slavery of sin,
to speak with integrity and authority into the situations of life that demand your light.
By the authority of your name, help us to approach God’s Throne of Divine Mercy
knowing our sins are forgiven in your name.
Amen

Prayer of the Week 24 January 2021

Loving God, we come to you with heavy hearts,
remembering the six million Jewish souls murdered during the Holocaust.
In the horrors of that history, when so many groups were targeted
because of their identity, and in genocides which followed,
we recognise destructive prejudices that drive people apart.
Forgive us when we give space to fear, negativity and hatred of others,
simply because they are different from us.
In the light of God, we see everyone as equally precious manifestations of the Divine
and can know the courage to face the darkness.
Through our prayers and actions,
help us to stand together with those who are suffering,
so that light may banish all darkness, love will prevail over hate
and good will triumph over evil.
Amen

Prayer of the Week 20 December 2020

It’s been a year of disturbance without time or space to settle or rest. How to make a home for a Saviour in this awkward place? Lord, may we seek you in doorways or spots we know well. Keep us ready for discipleship, to go and to tell. Amen

Prayer of the Week 13 December 2020

This is the time for hope’s renewal.
We know Christ will bring righteousness
as surely as flowers will come again in spring.
Lord, we light candles to rage against the dark.
Keep us fierce and faithful bringers of hope.
Amen

Prayer of the Week 6 December 2020

We could become comfortable in creation,
using up the bounty and the beauty God provides.
Our over-indulgence just feeds other’s poverty.
Lord, we hold your world in trust for your imminent arrival.
Keep us busy caring, sharing and preparing it to be fit for you.
Amen
