Daily Prayers Thursday, 15 September 2022
I offer you some brief thoughts and words, along with prayers we have used in our Sunday Evening Together meetings.
Heavenly Father,
we gather to open our hearts to You in prayer,
trusting that You will welcome us with open arms.
We worship You, the One who leads us through times of trial;
the One who supports us in sorrow and struggle;
the One who is beside us when all is bleak.
Holy One, we praise You.
We have been reminded over the past days of Her Late Majesty’s deep Christian faith. Here are some words from one of her speeches:
‘We are capable of great acts of kindness, history teaches us that we sometimes need saving from ourselves – from our recklessness or our greed. God sent into the world a unique person …a Saviour, with the power to forgive.’
From Hebrews 6:16-20 (Good News Bible):
16When people make vows, they use the name of someone greater than themselves, and the vow settles all arguments. 17To those who were to receive what he promised, God wanted to make it very clear that he would never change his purpose; so he added his vow to the promise. 18There are these two things, then, that cannot change and about which God cannot lie. So we who have found safety with him are greatly encouraged to hold firmly to the hope placed before us. 19We have this hope as an anchor for our lives. It is safe and sure, and goes through the curtain of the heavenly temple into the inner sanctuary. 20On our behalf Jesus has gone in there before us, and has become a high priest for ever, in the priestly order of Melchizedek.
A prayer to close:
Generous God, for all that sustains us;
air to breath, warmth and light,
food to eat, water to drink,
we offer our thanks and praise.
For spiritual gifts that bind us together;
one people, one body
empowered for service
we offer our hands and voices.
For the Good News of the Gospel;
healing and wholeness
freedom and justice
we offer our hearts in service.
Amen
