Evening Prayer Thursday, 10 June 2021
A reading from Psalm 92
1 It is good to praise the Lord
and make music to your name, O Most High,
2 proclaiming your love in the morning
and your faithfulness at night,
3 to the music of the ten-stringed lyre
and the melody of the harp.
4 For you make me glad by your deeds, Lord;
I sing for joy at what your hands have done.
12 The righteous will flourish like a palm tree,
they will grow like a cedar of Lebanon;
13 planted in the house of the Lord,
they will flourish in the courts of our God.
14 They will still bear fruit in old age,
they will stay fresh and green,
15 proclaiming, ‘The Lord is upright;
he is my Rock, and there is no wickedness in him.’

Dear Lord, we praise you, and in our hearts we sing to you, thanking you for your love for us.
When we woke this morning, we were overwhelmed by the beauty of early summer,
the birdsong from dawn to dusk, the new greenness of the trees, and gardens bursting with flowers.
We praise you for the wonderful gifts of nature, and we thank you for all those who work
to keep Milton Keynes such a pleasant place in which to live and work.
We thank you for the staff and volunteers of the Milton Keynes Parks Trust,
who maintain our parks and green spaces, nature reserves and even the grass verges of the grid roads
in such beautiful condition.
We thank you for the efficiency with which our household waste is removed and recycled,
and we thank you for the council workers who clean our streets,
and for the posties and delivery drivers, who keep our mail and other goods flowing.
We pray for all those who are anxious and fearful at this time
and we ask that you will show us how we can work with you to bring comfort to those who need it.
Help us to share with those about us the good news of your love for all your creation,
and especially for all people.
May we celebrate the diversity of cultures that are found in our city.
May we be truly respectful of traditions that may be very different from our own,
and may we be always ready to learn from others of the richness of their heritage.
Now, as we come to the end of another day, we are mindful of your faithfulness,
and how you allow us to flourish within your law of love to all people,
and that you give all your people many opportunities to lead a fulfilling life in your service.
We rejoice that you are our rock and our fortress,
and that we can pass the hours of darkness protected by your loving care.
We ask all these prayers in the name of your Son, Jesus Christ.
