At Your Breaking Point – Turn To God

“Wait on the Lord: be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart.” Psalm 27:14

‘David had reached his breaking point. ‘I would have lost heart, unless I had believed that I would see the goodness of the Lord in the land of the living’ (Psalm 27:13 NKJV). Can you identify? Have you reached your breaking point? If so, you have two options: break down or break through. It all depends on what you do. There is an old saying, ‘The same sunshine that melts the butter hardens the clay.’ When trouble comes you can either turn against God because you served him and don’t understand why he’s allowing it, or turn to him for strength and understanding. Therefore what David says next is so important; “Wait on the Lord; be of good courage, and He shall strengthen your heart”.

Sometimes God changes our circumstances; other times He uses them to strengthen us. It’s not just about you, but those God wants to reach through you. ’He comforts us in all our troubles so that we can comfort others’ (2 Corinthians 1:4 NLT). Nothing catches God off guard, and nothing is too hard for him to handle. The situation you’re in right now can become a platform for him to demonstrate his love and care for you. The faithful love of the Lord never ends! His mercies never cease. When you don’t obey God, consult Him or recognise His timing, you remove Him from the throne of your life and end up trying to take His place. Nineteenth century American clergyman Harry Ward Beecher said, ”The strength of a man consists in finding out the way God is going, and going that way”. Remember, there’s no time lost in waiting if you’re waiting on the Lord. So don’t let a ‘how to seminar or a ‘type A personality’ stampede you into getting ahead of God, or attempting to forge ahead under your own steam’. Let us pray: Heavenly Father, as we begin a new day we need to spend time with you quietly reading your Word, and listening for direction through your Holy Spirit. We need to spend this time with you because the world is a noisy place. Help us to be aware of your Presence, your Holiness and your Love for us. We pray for healing and renewal in our country at this calamitous time. Help us as Christians to reach out to the fearful and anxious; to those who are feeling bereft because of so many losses in their lives. We pray for persons suffering from mental illness because of the need for self- isolation brought on by the virus; as well as persons suffering from domestic violence. When we ourselves feel lost or impatient because of what we are experiencing, please give us courage, strength, trust and obedience. We know that you are the one eternal God and you are with us as we go through trials. Help us to hold on to the fact that so many times in the Bible you said ‘Fear Not’ also that you would never leave us nor forsake us. Father God, help us to show our care for each other by obeying government guidelines with respect to the behaviour expected of everyone during this coronavirus pandemic. Help us to be thoughtful and protective of each other in order to curtail the spread of the virus. We are one global community and we all suffer when we are uncaring or selfish. Lord in your mercy please lift us up to show Love to our neighbours, to our communities, and to the world. Amen
