Lent Meditations 2014: Journeying with God – Week Five: God is calling us to do …

LonelyJourney

In his journey to Jerusalem, Jesus came to the time when all that he knew about who he was, what God was calling him to, how he related to others, would mean taking that further step which would lead him to the cross. It meant giving up everything to do what he had come to do.

  • What are the hopes and dreams that you have had for your life?
  • What did you need to do to make them happen?
  • What are you wanting to do in this next year?
  • What will you need to do to make that happen?

If you are in a group, take time to talk about this.

Bible Readings

Ezekiel 37:1–14

Ezekiel, in his dream, finds himself in what seems like an impossible situation. The people are in exile. They are far from God. Can they possibly be a people again?

  • What do you think Ezekiel felt at the beginning of his dream?
  • What do you think he was feeling at the end?

John 11:1–45

This is about resurrection, but also about death and loss and grief.

  • What were the different characters feeling at the beginning of the story?
  • What were they feeling at the end?

Questions to consider

  • Do either of the Bible stories have echoes for you – as an individual or in the Church?
  • Where is new life to be found?
  • How will you approach the retelling of the death and resurrection of Jesus this year?
  • What does God want to do with us as a Chrcu at Cornerstone?
  • What is your part in that?

For those working in a group, you may discuss some or all of these questions – or your conversation and prayer may take you somewhere else entirely. But the important thing is to take time to reflect and pray in whatever way is most appropriate for you.

Week Five: 6 April 2014

Pray

Breath of hope

Dear God, the breath of your love brings hope and energy. May I use this week creatively and be thankful for the special gift of life that you have given me.

Amen

Go and find some leaves or bits of paper. Blow on them and watch them come to life.

Act

Breathe on a window pane and write on it with your finger, ‘God loves me’. (Get permission first.)
