Prayers for the Day, Wednesday

Good Morning Livingstones Family!!

We give thanks to God for giving us yet another day. Let us be glad and rejoice.

This past week I had the opportunity of fellowshipping with friends and family as well attending Pentecost Services. The discussions and teachings about the presence of Holy Spirit in our lives were refreshing and reassuring. The imagination of a small crowd in that Upper room on that first day of Pentecost and the size of 21st century Church.  I felt intrigued to reflect on what the Holy Spirit does into our lives.

John 14 : 11-14 & 25-27

11 Believe me when I say that I am in the Father and the Father is in me; or at least believe on the evidence of the works themselves. 12 Very truly I tell you, whoever believes in me will do the works I have been doing, and they will do even greater things than these, because I am going to the Father. 13 And I will do whatever you ask in my name, so that the Father may be glorified in the Son. 14 You may ask me for anything in my name, and I will do it………”

25 “All this I have spoken while still with you. 26 But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you. 27 Peace I leave with you; my peace I give you. I do not give to you as the world gives. Do not let your hearts be troubled and do not be afraid.”

This week I was reminded that the Holy Spirit helps to conform us to be images of Christ as role models of God’s Kingdom. The above passage from John’s Gospel of John teaches and reassures us that whoever believes in God the Father through Jesus Christ and Holy Spirit will be enabled to do even greater things for the Kingdom.   Being a Christian is not only about learning and keeping the law but it is about living with Jesus enabled by our “Advocate” the Holy Spirit in our lives.  Prayers, reading scriptures, worship, and fellowshipping keeps the Holy Spirit alive in us.   When the disciples were filled with Holy Spirit in the Upper room they belonged; they began to speak in other tongues as the Spirit led and their messages were understood by all.   The Holy Spirit gives us a renewed spiritual life and our faith is restored.  What are we doing in turn to make others receive the Holy Spirit? In this Pentecost season, may our Faith be transformed, restored and strengthened to be enabled to go and share the Good News of the Holy Spirit and become a true Oasis of Hope.

Let Us Pray:

Almighty God, The day of Pentecost gave birth to the Church and relaunched the mission of God. The Holy Spirit made a difference and continues to do so, may we be transformed and empowered to be Christlike.  We ask for your presence today in all things we will do with gladness and thanksgiving by the presence of Holy Spirit in us. May all that we will do be according to your plans and we become true ambassadors for your Name to be glorified.  In your great love, keep us near you this day.  The disciples gathered in the Upper Room in Jerusalem in the face of challenging circumstances, persecution, loss and uncertainty, they shared communal support and devoted themselves to prayer, fellowship, breaking of bread and teaching. As we pray today, you know the areas of our struggles, losses, uncertainties and those who have lost hope because of life experiences; may the Holy Spirit work and dwell in each and everyone’s life.  Your Word reassures us of your never ending Peace that will leave within us and that we should not be troubled or be afraid as you will be with us; we thank You.

Lord in your mercy

We thank you for the Holy Spirit; grant that in all our ways and doings we may remember that you see us, bless us and in your mercy we receive your Grace to know and perceive what things you would have us to do and give us strength to do same accordingly. Heavenly Father we pray for those who come fresh to our minds and hearts this day:  perhaps a family member we have prayed for over many weeks or years, or a friend who is struggling to find meaning in his life, or a loved one who needs healing, a stranger who needs the comfort of your Holy Spirit as they grieve; all who are struggling or going through difficult periods in their lives or those questioning their faith or trying to reconnect with their faith. We ask for your help and comfort upon them. You know their pain and anxieties. Help them walk with You and know that You love them.

Lord in your mercy

Let us pray for fresh outpouring of the Holy Spirit for peace, joy, healing, reconciliation and good governance in areas where there is no justice. We specially remember at this time the people of Ukraine and other war torn nations. Almighty God, in this season of Pentecost, instead of flames of tongues, we see flames of despair, anger, anguish and fear, grip the towns and cities of Ukraine and other areas. Instead of feeling the power of the Holy Spirit, we see the power of oppression overwhelm the light daily. Your word in Isaiah 2:4 says, He will judge between the nations and will settle disputes for many people. They will beat their swords into ploughshares and their spears into pruning hooks. We bring before you all the people affected by wars those living under tribal division conflicts in their suffering, displaced, hunger and anguish. May your presence be felt, be close to them and protect them. We pray for the world leaders for compassion, strength, wisdom and courage to guide their choices in the Best Interest of the people they serve. Lord Jesus, you have all authority in Heaven and on Earth; grant those who have political or economic authority compassion and wisdom to use their influence to bring about peace. For those who have so far refused to consider the suffering they have directly or indirectly caused, convict them by your Holy Spirit.

Lord in your mercy

Children are gifts from God and in this Pentecost season we give thanks for the children we have in our lives. We pray that may children come to know God and discover that He sees them and provides for them. Father God for those children in our lives and those unknown to us; may you meet their spiritual, physical, and emotional needs. May they grow up knowing they are loved by You. Bless them with opportunities to realise their dreams.  We pray for their protection, healthy and help them to thrive in all areas of their lives. We thank you that you know every one of them by their names and you will watch over them in every area of their life and keep them safe we pray.

Lord in your mercy

Loving God, we thank you for a successful period of the Queen’s Jubilee celebrations.  We witnessed shared love, joy, unity across communities, nations and renewed hope of happiness.  We thank you for her courage, dignity and dedication to duty.  We pray for her continued strength and good health.

Merciful Father.  Accept these prayers, for the sake of Your Son Our Saviour Jesus Christ.
Amen.

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father, who art in heaven, hallowed be thy Name,
thy kingdom come, thy will be done, on earth as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses, as we forgive those who trespass against us.
And lead us not into temptation, but deliver us from evil.
For thine is the kingdom, and the power, and the glory, for ever and ever. Amen.

Thank you for joining our today’s prayer session.

Have a Wonderful Blessed Day.

Grace Hunting
