Daily Prayers Tuesday, 6 September 2022
Good Day Cornerstone Friends.
This morning we will pray for our journey towards the Eco Church award but first let us take a moment of thanks.
Lord God, Master of creation, we thank you for bringing us to this day through the restful dark. May we live the day as thankful people, alive to the needs of creation all around us. In Jesus’ name we pray. AMEN.
Hands are truly wonderful things. Through training and repetition they can do extraordinary things like draw and sew and play a musical instrument. Learning to do something manual creates fresh pathways in the brain which become stronger every time the action is repeated. I learned to read music as a child so now I can look at the notes on a page and clearly read them like a story. The signals go through some now rather old pathways and turn into instructions to my fingers. These instructions are not always perfectly carried out, as you will have noticed over the past two Sunday morning services. My eyes see what is needed but I’m not always able to achieve the desirable by the time the signal gets to my hands. Like Paul said, the good things I want to do I leave undone and the bad things I want to stop doing I continue to do. Our Eco Church journey is about learning to amend what we do – to make new pathways – as a church and as individuals, to reduce our impact on the planet and to increase actions to protect and enhance the environment. Let us pray.
Lord, forgive our carelessness with the natural resources you so generously provide. Increase our mindfulness of each impact we make that we may become good stewards in this place, walking ever more lightly on the earth, preserving carefully what we have and minimising waste.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer
Gather the people of Bangladesh into your care as they suffer catastrophic floods, enhanced by the climate changing actions of the richer world. Help us do all in our power to halt deep change and to support organisations engaged in rescue and development.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
Give us courage to continuously press our politicians to make substantial progress on our international promises to move towards net zero. Amplify our voices through the Citizens MK and Eco Church network so that we cannot be ignored.
Lord in your mercy, hear our prayer.
We pray for our Cornerstone Fellowship that we may reduce our impact on the environment and improve our efficient use of resources from water to food through energy that we may truly become a beacon on the high hill and an oasis of hope for the City Centre.
Lord teach us in the way you would have us go.
AMEN
