Daily Prayers Friday, 7 October 2022
A prayer for Black History Month from the website of the Methodist Church:
God of Grace,
As we find ourselves at the beginning of Black History month, help us to realize that Black history is all our histories.
May the day come when these stories of pain and deprivation no longer need to be told.
We know this day will not come until we all make different choices.
And so we pray that we may recognise the pain that others feel.
Give those full of fear – hope.
May we come to know grace, so that our hearts will not be hardened to the pain around us.
Widen our vision so that the history that is shared this month,
may come to be simply part of ‘history’.
We are most human when we see the humanity in others.

We thank you for the diversity of our congregation at Christ the Cornerstone. May we try to discern the gifts which each person brings to our church and work together to be a beacon of light in this city.
Grant us the grace to recognise and value the contribution which each person can make to the enrichment of our fellowship.
And now let’s close our prayers with this blessing, which I found on the internet:
May the God who created a world of diversity and vibrancy,
Go with us as we embrace life in all its fullness.
May the Son who teaches us to care for stranger and foreigners,
Go with us as we try to be good neighbours in our communities.
May the Spirit who breaks down our barriers and celebrates community,
Go with us as we find the courage to create a place of welcome for all.
Amen
