Category: Prayer of the Week
The Lord is gracious and compassionate, long-suffering and ever faithful.
The Lord is good to all; his compassion rests upon all his creatures.
All your creatures praise you, Lord, and your loyal servants bless you.
Amen
And when night comes, and you look back over the day
and see how fragmentary everything has been,
and how much you planned that has gone undone,
and all the reasons you have to be embarrassed and ashamed:
just take everything exactly as it is, put it in God’s hands and leave it with Him.
Amen
Beloved God,
keep me as the apple of your eye,
hide me in the shadow of your wings,
show the wonder of your great love.
Give ear to me and hear my prayer.
Amen
God of awe and wonder, worthy of honour and praise,
you know us intimately because you created us.
We come into your presence, amazed by your love for us and your delight in knowing us.
We come to worship you, ready to be changed by your word and Spirit.
Speak, Lord, for your servants wait to hear your guiding voice.
Amen
Lord Jesus, we gather to meet you in word, in spirit and in community.
We bring to you our burdens and our joys,
our fears and hopes for ourselves, for those dear to us as well as for your Church.
Forgive our brokenness and frailty, our thoughtlessness and negligence
and guide us with your Holy Spirit in this New Year.
Be present to us in our worship
and send us out to see you at work in the world around us.
Amen
Lord of the years, we thank you for the gifts of the past year, for every blessing and opportunity.
Forgive us for the things we regret and heal the wounds that we carry with us.
Help us to build on the past, and to journey with you into the future, confident in your strength alone.
We ask this in the name of the Child born among us – Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Amen
Remember, when you are visited by an angel,
you may not wish to receive his message
nor to be told that you are chosen,
but accept his words with grace
and know that all things are possible.
Amen
Can you be like those who dream of tears turning to joy,
of feasts of good things for the hungry,
of the opening of the gates for all who are captive,
and of comfort for the bereaved?
Amen
You do not have to live for a thousand years. One day is enough for you to be restored, to let the words take away your fears and show you the path through the desert.
Amen
Why wait for the mountains to tumble and the potter to mould you like clay?
Instead of expecting angels to descend, go into the world.
Be like the fig tree and provide fruit for all to eat.
Amen
We give you our heartfelt thanks, loving God, for:
those who have ministered to us in our time of need;
those who have visited us when we were ill;
those who have freed us from prisons of fear or lack of confidence;
those who have listened when we have needed to talk.
Bless them, encourage them in their ministries and strengthen us to follow their example of self-giving and compassion in Jesus’s name.
Amen
O God, the Holy Spirit:
come to us, and among us;
come as the wind, and cleanse us;
come as the fire, and purify us;
come as the dew, and refresh us.
O God, the Holy Spirit,
Come and be with us.
Amen
Loving God, we look for peace, but find it hard to see.
We look for hope, but find it hard to believe.
We look for love, but find the cost too great.
Help us to know that you believe that each of us is worth whatever it might take.
Amen
Lord, you offer freedom to all people. We pray for those in prison.
Break the bonds of fear and isolation that exist.
Support with your love prisoners and their families and friends, prison staff and all who care.
Heal those who have been wounded by the actions of others, especially the victims of crime.
Help us to forgive one another, to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly together with Christ in his strength and in his Spirit, now and every day.
Amen
Blessed be God,
and blessed be his great name,
and blessed be all his holy angels.
May his holy name be blessed
throughout all the ages,
because he has had mercy upon us.
Amen
