Category: Prayer of the Week
Living God, you loved this world so much that you sent your own son, Jesus Christ
who commanded us to love our neighbours as we love ourselves.
Teach us again, we plead, what it means to live as children of the light,
generously sharing your abundance with our neighbours in Jesus name
Amen
Living God, we thank you for the air that we breathe and for the rhythm of the seasons.
Grant us the wisdom to care for the earth and protect it.
Help us to act now for the good of future generations and all your creatures.
Help us to become instruments of a new creation, founded on the covenant of your love.
Amen
Lord, we thank you for the opportunity this time of Lent offers each one of us.
Helps us in our reflections to search ourselves and see where we have failed;
the gifts we have squandered and allowed others to go waste.
Awaken in us the desire to work towards fulfilling our potential in life guided by your Holy Spirit.
Amen
Generous God, we thank you for your loving care
and abundant provision for all your children.
Give us grace to share your gifts with others
for the greater well-being of all.
Amen
Living God, in your presence, the prophets quake and those who know you fall to their knees. Today we pray that you would open our eyes to see your glory reflected in the face of Jesus Christ, your Son. Shine in our hearts and dispel the darkness that holds us captive. Shine in our lives as...
The Lord is gracious and compassionate, long-suffering and ever faithful.
The Lord is good to all; his compassion rests upon all his creatures.
All your creatures praise you, Lord, and your loyal servants bless you.
Amen
And when night comes, and you look back over the day
and see how fragmentary everything has been,
and how much you planned that has gone undone,
and all the reasons you have to be embarrassed and ashamed:
just take everything exactly as it is, put it in God’s hands and leave it with Him.
Amen
Beloved God,
keep me as the apple of your eye,
hide me in the shadow of your wings,
show the wonder of your great love.
Give ear to me and hear my prayer.
Amen
God of awe and wonder, worthy of honour and praise,
you know us intimately because you created us.
We come into your presence, amazed by your love for us and your delight in knowing us.
We come to worship you, ready to be changed by your word and Spirit.
Speak, Lord, for your servants wait to hear your guiding voice.
Amen
Lord Jesus, we gather to meet you in word, in spirit and in community.
We bring to you our burdens and our joys,
our fears and hopes for ourselves, for those dear to us as well as for your Church.
Forgive our brokenness and frailty, our thoughtlessness and negligence
and guide us with your Holy Spirit in this New Year.
Be present to us in our worship
and send us out to see you at work in the world around us.
Amen
Lord of the years, we thank you for the gifts of the past year, for every blessing and opportunity.
Forgive us for the things we regret and heal the wounds that we carry with us.
Help us to build on the past, and to journey with you into the future, confident in your strength alone.
We ask this in the name of the Child born among us – Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Amen
Remember, when you are visited by an angel,
you may not wish to receive his message
nor to be told that you are chosen,
but accept his words with grace
and know that all things are possible.
Amen
Can you be like those who dream of tears turning to joy,
of feasts of good things for the hungry,
of the opening of the gates for all who are captive,
and of comfort for the bereaved?
Amen
You do not have to live for a thousand years. One day is enough for you to be restored, to let the words take away your fears and show you the path through the desert.
Amen
Why wait for the mountains to tumble and the potter to mould you like clay?
Instead of expecting angels to descend, go into the world.
Be like the fig tree and provide fruit for all to eat.
Amen
