Category: Prayer of the Week
Lord of the years, we thank you for the gifts of the past year, for every blessing and opportunity.
Forgive us for the things we regret and heal the wounds that we carry with us.
Help us to build on the past, and to journey with you into the future, confident in your strength alone.
We ask this in the name of the Child born among us – Jesus Christ our Saviour.
Amen
Remember, when you are visited by an angel,
you may not wish to receive his message
nor to be told that you are chosen,
but accept his words with grace
and know that all things are possible.
Amen
Can you be like those who dream of tears turning to joy,
of feasts of good things for the hungry,
of the opening of the gates for all who are captive,
and of comfort for the bereaved?
Amen
You do not have to live for a thousand years. One day is enough for you to be restored, to let the words take away your fears and show you the path through the desert.
Amen
Why wait for the mountains to tumble and the potter to mould you like clay?
Instead of expecting angels to descend, go into the world.
Be like the fig tree and provide fruit for all to eat.
Amen
We give you our heartfelt thanks, loving God, for:
those who have ministered to us in our time of need;
those who have visited us when we were ill;
those who have freed us from prisons of fear or lack of confidence;
those who have listened when we have needed to talk.
Bless them, encourage them in their ministries and strengthen us to follow their example of self-giving and compassion in Jesus’s name.
Amen
O God, the Holy Spirit:
come to us, and among us;
come as the wind, and cleanse us;
come as the fire, and purify us;
come as the dew, and refresh us.
O God, the Holy Spirit,
Come and be with us.
Amen
Loving God, we look for peace, but find it hard to see.
We look for hope, but find it hard to believe.
We look for love, but find the cost too great.
Help us to know that you believe that each of us is worth whatever it might take.
Amen
Lord, you offer freedom to all people. We pray for those in prison.
Break the bonds of fear and isolation that exist.
Support with your love prisoners and their families and friends, prison staff and all who care.
Heal those who have been wounded by the actions of others, especially the victims of crime.
Help us to forgive one another, to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly together with Christ in his strength and in his Spirit, now and every day.
Amen
Blessed be God,
and blessed be his great name,
and blessed be all his holy angels.
May his holy name be blessed
throughout all the ages,
because he has had mercy upon us.
Amen
Living God, we thank you for all your gifts of nature and of grace,
for health and strength, for homes and family, for true friends and wise teachers,
for all the blessings of the last 25 years
and for our hope for a better life to come
surrounded and protected by your love in Jesus’s name.
Amen
Lord our God,
may your mercy be seen at work in our hearts.
Shed your light upon all people, and let your glory be known.
Keep us in your Word, which works miracles,
and help us to serve you with simplicity of heart.
Amen
Loving God, we cannot earn your love.
You lived, died and rose for us.
All that we do is as nothing in comparison.
We draw near in faith, for we long to know you.
We offer our righteousness, because we want to sincerely love you.
We enter your holiness, for we desperately want to become like Jesus Christ our saviour.
Amen
Loving God; we come into your presence with humility, seeking your mercy.
We come into your presence rejoicing, for your love for us is steadfast.
We come into your presence in confident hope,
for you will guide us in the truth by your spirit in Jesus name.
Amen
Lord we come to your house with love in our hearts, praise on our lips, intent on worship.
We come to offer our time and our thoughts to you.
We come to receive your comfort and your challenge to us. Lord, unite our prayers and our worship, that your name may be glorified in Jesus name.
Amen
