Prayer of the Week 3 January 2016

God of grace,
through the mediation of your Son,
you call us into a new covenant.
Help us therefore to draw near with faith
and join ourselves in a perpetual covenant with you;
through Jesus Christ our Lord.

Amen

Prayer of the Week 27 December 2015

Samuel (like Jesus) was at home in the temple,
happy with the gift of his annual new coat
made from cotton of kindness, dyed with compassion,
stitched in forgiveness and decorated in hope.
Lord of Salvation, whose power remakes us,
clothe me in righteousness, fitting for you.

Amen

Prayer of the Week 20 December 2015: Advent 4

We are called to the light from the hard times of darkness
to welcome a world turning upside down,
where the rich ones are humbled and the poor take their places,
where light from one candle is the new light of day.

Lord of Salvation, I believe in your promise
that one obscure birth will bring us exiles home.

Amen

Prayer of the Week 13 December 2015: Advent 3

The refugee road is filling up now with
outcasts and exiles, stumblers and foreigners,
trailing the Spirit who promises light.

God help us deliver the fruits of repentance:
a candle for welcome instead of disaster,
to live with enough and our spares to be shared.

Lord of Salvation who quashed my conviction
help us live like one people who are guilty no more.

Amen

Advent Meditations 2015: Light in Dark Times – Week 3: Glimpses of Light

Glimpses of Light Philippians 4:4–8 I wish you joy in the Lord always. Again I say, all joy be yours. Be know to everyone for your consideration of others. The Lord is near; do not be anxious, but in everything make your requests known to God in prayer and petition with thanksgiving. Then the peace of God, which is beyond...

Prayer of the Week 6 December 2015: Advent 2

This journey can be rough in the dark time:
without lamp or compass but accompanied by guilt.
John said to fill up the valleys, level the mountains,
become smooth and straight and ready for rescue.
Lord of Salvation, save us from darkness.
Come live in my heart, be my beacon, my light.

Amen

Prayer of the Week 29 November 2015: Advent 1

Here we are, Lord, on the edge of the future,
alert to the signs in events of today –
prejudice, poverty, terror, oppression.
What space in the hard times to welcome new birth?
Lord of Salvation, come to our rescue.
Help me light a candle in defiance of the dark.

Amen

Prayer of the Week 22 November 2015

Almighty God, Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
you sent your Son to be our teacher and saviour.

Forgive us when we have not made you our priority,
when we have dismissed your authority in our lives.

Give us grace to turn once more to the ways of your Son.

Help us to listen to your voice and seek your truth,
that we may do justice, love mercy
and walk humbly into your everlasting kingdom.

Amen

Prayer of the Week 15 November 2015

O God, where beauty fades, you do not fail us.
Though all unravels about us, you are still faithful.
Though all that is temporary will cease, your presence is eternal.
Give us your eyes to see what as yet we cannot see.
Give us your wisdom to know what our dreams can only hint at.
Give us your courage to walk with you into our future.

Amen

Prayer of the Week 8 November 2015

Loving God, we look for peace, but find it hard to see.
We look for hope, but find it hard to believe.
We look for love, but find the cost too great.
Help us to know that you believe
that each of us is worth
whatever it might take.

Amen
