Morning Prayer Thursday, 15 October 2020

Moving from the shoreline to the Saviour As Jesus walked along the beach, He ‘saw two brothers, Simon called Peter and Andrew his brother, casting a net into the sea; for they were fishermen. Then He said to them, “Follow me, and I will make you fishers of men.” They immediately left their nets and followed...

Morning Prayer Wednesday, 14 October 2020

Good morning good Cornerstone friends. I hope you are keeping safe and in good heart this morning. God’s gift to us is this new day with its autumn colours, let us thank Him for it and consider some scriptures together and pray. The Lord is King: let the earth rejoice; let the multitude of the isles...

Music to end the Day for Sunday, 11 October 2020

‘Music to end the day’ begins tonight with a charming and sprightly Prelude in C, one of the ‘Eight Short Preludes and Fugues’ formerly attributed to J.S. Bach, but now thought more likely to be the work of his finest pupil, Johann Krebs. Krebs was a brilliant performer, second only to Bach, but he found it...

Prayer of the Week 11 October 2020

Faithful and loving God, we do not always feel like rejoicing.
Even as we gather to worship you, our minds are sometimes distracted and elsewhere,
weighed down by the burdens of our lives.
Help us, in this moment, to find it within our hearts
to REJOICE in your constancy and loving care for us
for we know you love us immensely.
Amen

Evening Prayer Friday, 9 October 2020

Last Sunday, we celebrated Harvest. I don’t know how you felt, but if, like me, you joined the service on the internet, rather than in church, it may have  seemed very strange not to be in the Worship Area, looking towards a Harvest display. Before we moved to Milton Keynes thirty years ago, I had always...

Morning Prayer Friday, 9 October 2020

Good morning on this fresh autumn day! We can be thankful for the refreshment of night, the soft October light, the crisp chill of early day and the excitement of a busy Friday just beginning. Give thanks to the Lord for she is good and her mercy endures forever. Her unfailing love reaches to the heavens,...

Evening Prayer Thursday, 8 October 2020

A reading from Peter’s First Letter 1 To the elders among you, I appeal as a fellow elder and a witness of Christ’s sufferings who also will share in the glory to be revealed: 2 be shepherds of God’s flock that is under your care, watching over them – not because you must, but because you are willing,...

Morning Prayer Thursday, 8 October 2020

Renewing our Minds Morning by morning He wakens me and opens my understanding to His will. Isaiah 50: 4b The season of autumn is typically one of new beginnings and fresh starts. Children going to school for the first time; many advancing from primary to secondary school; first-year university students looking forward to beginning their programme...

Morning Prayer Wednesday, 7 October 2020

Good morning Cornerstone friends. It looks like being a dry day after all that wind and rain over the weekend. A number of my favourite dog walks are now under several inches of water so my morning choices are limited. I hope that all of you are not feeling too limited in your life and activities....

Music to End the Day Sunday, 4 October 2020

Good evening, friends. As I’m sure you know, the great Italian film composer Ennio Morricone died recently at the age of 91. One of his best-known scores was created for the 1986 film ‘The Mission’, with Robert de Niro and Jeremy Irons. ‘Gabriel’s Oboe’ is the film’s main theme. It is most prominently used when Jesuit...

Harvest Service for Sunday, 4 October 2020

Led by Revd George Mwaura Introit: As water to the thirsty As water to the thirsty, as beauty to the eyes, as strength that follows weakness, as truth instead of lies, as summertime and springtime and summertime to be, so is my Lord, my living Lord, so is my Lord to me. Like calm in place...

Sermon for Sunday, 4 October 2020

Opportunism or Opportunity? Isaiah 5: 1–7 and Mathew 21: 33–46 Lord we thank you for the gifts of creation. As we listen to your word, open the ears of our hearts so that we may hear and learn that faithful servanthood in the vineyard which is this world. Amen A few years ago, I watched a...

Prayer of the Week 4 October 2020

Loving God, we come to you in gratitude.
We are all so different, each our own being; and yet you love and care for us all.
You nurture and protect us.
How can we not be thankful to you for all that the journey with you offers!
We thank you that you guide us, in unexpected ways, to find the right way in life.
We thank you that when we wander, you draw us back to you,
give us new direction and encourage us to follow where you lead.
We thank you that the pains of life can be overshadowed by the joy of walking with you.
For all these blessings and more, we give you thanks and praise.
Amen
