A reading from Psalm 99

1 The Lord reigns,
let the nations tremble;
he sits enthroned between the cherubim,
let the earth shake.
2 Great is the Lord in Zion;
he is exalted over all the nations.
3 Let them praise your great and awesome name –
he is holy.

4 The King is mighty, he loves justice –
you have established equity;
in Jacob you have done
what is just and right.
5 Exalt the Lord our God
and worship at his footstool;
he is holy.

6 Moses and Aaron were among his priests,
Samuel was among those who called on his name;
they called on the Lord
and he answered them.
7 He spoke to them from the pillar of cloud;
they kept his statutes and the decrees he gave them.

8 Lord our God,
you answered them;
you were to Israel a forgiving God,
though you punished their misdeeds.

9 Exalt the Lord our God
and worship at his holy mountain,
for the Lord our God is holy.

Psalm 99

Dear God, the King of Heaven and the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ,
we worship you and praise your holy name.
We bow before your greatness and approach you humbly with our prayers.
You are so immeasurably powerful and we are so weak and feeble,
and yet you love us as your children and want us to love you too,
with all our heart, with all our mind and with all our soul.

We turn to you in times of crisis, praying not so much for ourselves,
as for all those vulnerable people who so desperately need your care and protection.
Show us, we pray, how we can be your hands and feet,
bringing comfort and solace to your people in greatest need.

Through the leaders you have appointed, you have always led your people to safety.
Give your leaders of today the wisdom and humility to lead us in your paths.
Lead us all now, and show us the truth of your Word and the justice of your laws.

We know that you are a forgiving God, pardoning all who repent of their misdeeds.
Forgive us, we pray, when we fail to do what you would have us do,
and show us how to mend our ways and follow you more closely.

Help us, too, to understand the spiritual nature of your holy mountain:
you are with us wherever we are and we can find your holy mountain anywhere.
where we may worship you, in our own homes, on our way to work or to the shops,
on our daily walks, or wherever we may be,
always praising you and giving thanks for all that you have done for us.

We close our prayers this evening by saying the Grace together:

May the grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
the love of God
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with us all, evermore.

Amen
