Evening Prayers Tuesday, 14 April 2020
Let us keep apart for a while from our days activities and prepare for time with God.
Let us give thanks for this day and pray that this evening may be holy, good and peaceful.
As our evening prayer rises before you, O God,
so may your mercy come down upon us
to cleanse our hearts and set us free
to sing your praise now and for ever.
Paul’s letter to ‘all the saints who are in Philippi’ chapter 2, verses 5–11
5 In your relationships with one another, have the same mindset as Christ Jesus:
6 who, being in very nature God,
did not consider equality with God something to be used to his own advantage;
7 rather, he made himself nothing
by taking the very nature of a servant,
being made in human likeness.
8 And being found in appearance as a man,
he humbled himself
by becoming obedient to death –
even death on a cross!
9 Therefore God exalted him to the highest place
and gave him the name that is above every name,
10 that at the name of Jesus every knee should bow,
in heaven and on earth and under the earth,
11 and every tongue acknowledge that Jesus Christ is Lord,
to the glory of God the Father.

Paul continues in that chapter to ask the church ‘in his absence,
to work for their own salvation’ and ‘shine like stars in the world’.
Let us pray for the light of Christ to remain with us
and protect us this night that we may awake
in the morning with ‘the same mind that was in Christ Jesus’.
Abide with us, Lord, for it is evening,
and the day is drawing to a close.
Abide with us and your whole Church,
in the evening of the day,
in the evening of life,
in the evening of the world;
abide with us and all your faithful ones, O Lord,
in time and eternity.
Amen
Rejoicing in God’s new creation, let us pray with confidence as our Saviour taught us:
Our Father in heaven, hallowed be your name,
your Kingdom come, your will be done,
on earths as it is in heaven,
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins,
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power and the glory are yours
now and forever.
Amen
The grace of our Lord Jesus Christ,
and the love of God,
and the fellowship of the Holy Spirit
be with us all evermore
Amen
