Call to Worship

Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David – this is our good news.
Come, let us worship the living God, who welcomes us just as Jesus welcomed the ten on the road.

Let our hearts be open, our voices ready, and our lives eager to be shaped by the mercy and power of Christ.

Amen

Hymn: Meekness and majesty

Meekness and majesty, manhood and deity,
in perfect harmony, the Man who is God.
Lord of eternity dwells,
kneels in humility and washes our feet.

O what a mystery, meekness and majesty,
bow down and worship for this is your God,
this is your God.

Father’s pure radiance, perfect in innocence,
yet learns obedience to death on a cross.
Suffering to give us life, conquering through sacrifice,
and as they crucify prays: ‘Father forgive.’

O what a mystery, …

Wisdom unsearchable, God the invisible,
love indestructible in frailness appears.
Lord of infinity, stooping so tenderly,
lifts our humanity to the heights of his throne.

O what a mystery, …

Thanksgiving and Confession

Gracious God, we give you thanks for your faithfulness,
a faithfulness that holds us even when we forget to return and say thank you.
Like the one Samaritan who turned back to praise you,
we remember your mercy poured out on our lives.
Yet, Lord, we confess that too often we are like the others,
rushing on, missing the miracle, forgetting the Giver.

[Silence]

Forgive us when we grow weary in doing good or let fear silence our witness.
Cleanse us from pride and ingratitude.
Thank you that in Christ we are never cast out, and your word is never chained.
Restore to us the joy of your salvation, and make us quick to give thanks, to serve,
and to follow where you lead, through Jesus’ Mighty name.

Amen

Prayer of the Week

God of steadfast love, as we step into a new week, we remember Jesus, risen, present, and powerful.
Fill us with the courage to stand firm in faith, to speak truth with gentleness,
and to return always to gratitude.
Let us marvel at your mercy each day and send us out as people who have been made whole,
ready to serve and praise you in all we do through Christ our Lord.

Amen

Ministry of the Word

2 Timothy 2: 8–15

Read by Joy Enenche

8 Remember Jesus Christ, raised from the dead, descended from David. This is my gospel, 9 for which I am suffering even to the point of being chained like a criminal. But God’s word is not chained. 10 Therefore I endure everything for the sake of the elect, that they too may obtain the salvation that is in Christ Jesus, with eternal glory.

11 Here is a trustworthy saying:

If we died with him,
we will also live with him;
12 if we endure,
we will also reign with him.
If we disown him,
he will also disown us;
13 if we are faithless,
he remains faithful,
for he cannot disown himself.</span?

Dealing With False Teachers

14 Keep reminding God’s people of these things. Warn them before God against quarrelling about words; it is of no value, and only ruins those who listen. 15 Do your best to present yourself to God as one approved, a worker who does not need to be ashamed and who correctly handles the word of truth.

This is the word of the Lord.
Thanks be to God.

Hymn: Holy, Holy, Holy! Lord God Almighty!

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
early in the morning our song shall rise to thee;
holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessèd Trinity!

Holy, holy, holy! all the saints adore thee,
casting down their golden crowns around the glassy sea;
cherubim and seraphim falling down before thee,
which wert and art and evermore shalt be.

Holy, holy, holy! though the darkness hide thee,
though the eye of sinful man thy glory may not see,
only thou art holy, there is none beside thee
perfect in power, in love, and purity.

Holy, holy, holy! Lord God Almighty!
all thy works shall praise thy name in earth and sky and sea;
holy, holy, holy! merciful and mighty!
God in three persons, blessèd Trinity!

Luke 17: 11–19

Read by Kudakwashe Matare

Jesus heals ten men with leprosy

11 Now on his way to Jerusalem, Jesus travelled along the border between Samaria and Galilee. 12 As he was going into a village, ten men who had leprosy met him. They stood at a distance 13 and called out in a loud voice, ‘Jesus, Master, have pity on us!’

14 When he saw them, he said, ‘Go, show yourselves to the priests.’ And as they went, they were cleansed.

15 One of them, when he saw he was healed, came back, praising God in a loud voice. 16 He threw himself at Jesus’ feet and thanked him – and he was a Samaritan.

17 Jesus asked, ‘Were not all ten cleansed? Where are the other nine? 18 Has no one returned to give praise to God except this foreigner?’ 19 Then he said to him, ‘Rise and go; your faith has made you well.’

This is the Gospel of Christ.

Sermon

Affirmation of Faith

We believe in Jesus Christ, the risen Lord,
who brings healing and new life to all who seek him.
We believe that God’s word is never chained
and that grace overflows even to outsiders and strangers.
We trust in the mercy that meets us on every road, and we rejoice that nothing,
not hardship, nor doubt, nor death can separate us from God’s love.
This is the faith we receive and share:
Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again.
This we believe.

Amen

Prayers of Intercession

Led by Adrian Boynton

The Lord’s Prayer

Our Father in heaven,
hallowed be your name,
your kingdom come,
your will be done,
on earth as in heaven.
Give us today our daily bread.
Forgive us our sins
as we forgive those who sin against us.
Lead us not into temptation
but deliver us from evil.
For the kingdom, the power,
and the glory are yours
now and for ever.

Amen

Sharing Peace

The peace of Christ be with you, the peace that heals, restores, and welcomes all.
Turn to one another and share this peace, as forgiven and grateful people,
and wave those watching on the live stream.

Hymn: Immortal, invisible, God only wise

Immortal, invisible, God only wise,
in light inaccessible hid from our eyes,
most blessed, most glorious, the Ancient of Days,
almighty, victorious, thy great name we raise.

Unresting, unhasting, and silent as light;
nor wanting, nor wasting, thou rulest in might –
thy justice like mountains high-soaring above
thy clouds which are fountains of goodness and love.

To all life thou givest, to both great and small;
in all life thou livest, the true life of all;
we blossom and flourish as leaves on the tree,
and wither and perish; but naught changeth thee.

Great Father of glory, pure Father of light,
thine angels adore thee, all veiling their sight;
all laud we would render: O help us to see
’tis only the splendour of light hideth thee.

Words for Mission and Benediction

Go now in the strength of Christ, remembering his mercy and his call.
Like the healed Samaritan, return to give thanks and then go out,
ready to serve, speak, and love in Jesus’ name.
And may the blessings of God Almighty, Father Son and Holy Spirit,
rest and remain upon you and all those whom you love this day and always.

Amen

Dismissal

Church, go in peace to love and serve the Lord.

In the name of Christ, we will.

Amen
