Prayer for the Day – Monday 18th May 2026

The author of the book Deuteronomy says in 31:8

The Lord himself goes before you and will be with you; he will never leave you nor forsake you. Do not be afraid; do not be discouraged

Pause for a moment and read Mark 4:35–41

Jesus calms the storm

35 That day when evening came, he said to his disciples, ‘Let us go over to the other side.’ 36 Leaving the crowd behind, they took him along, just as he was, in the boat. There were also other boats with him. 37 A furious squall came up, and the waves broke over the boat, so that it was nearly swamped. 38 Jesus was in the stern, sleeping on a cushion. The disciples woke him and said to him, ‘Teacher, don’t you care if we drown?’

39 He got up, rebuked the wind and said to the waves, ‘Quiet! Be still!’ Then the wind died down and it was completely calm.

40 He said to his disciples, ‘Why are you so afraid? Do you still have no faith?’

41 They were terrified and asked each other, ‘Who is this? Even the wind and the waves obey him!’

The disciples are overwhelmed by a violent storm while crossing the lake with Jesus. Although fear grips them, Jesus calmly speaks to the wind and waves, and the storm immediately becomes still. The story reminds us that even when life feels chaotic and uncertain, Jesus remains sovereign over every storm we face. Its central message is that faith grows when we trust God’s presence and power, even in frightening circumstances.

One of life’s greatest comforts is knowing that God is already in our tomorrow. As a new week begins, many of us carry worries about situations we cannot control or answers we do not yet have. In Mark chapter 4, the disciples panicked during a violent storm while Jesus slept in the boat. Yet His presence with them meant they were never truly alone, even in the middle of fear and uncertainty.

Many people begin the week exhausted by battles that have not even happened yet. We worry about conversations, outcomes, and challenges ahead. But Scripture reminds us that the Lord goes before us. Faith is not denying the storm; it is trusting that the One with us is greater than the storm around us. So today, release the pressure of trying to control everything and trust God one step at a time.

We pray:

Gracious Father, thank You for going before me into this new week. Thank You that I do not walk into unknown days alone. You already stand in every moment ahead of me. Lord, when fear begins to rise within me, remind me that You are near. When anxiety speaks loudly, help me hear Your voice above the noise. Teach me to trust Your presence even when I cannot yet see Your plan. In the week ahead, I surrender all my life, its concerns and challenges into your capable hands even the hidden worries I rarely speak about. Go before me and make the crooked places straight. Give me wisdom in conversations, patience in frustrations, discernment in decisions, and kindness in every interaction. Protect me from unnecessary discouragement and help me not to lose heart when things move differently than I expected. Where my heart feels restless, bring peace. Where my spirit feels tired, bring renewal. Where doors need to open, provide favour. Where healing is needed, release Your restoring touch. May this week not be driven by pressure, fear, or striving, but by confidence in Your faithfulness through Jesus mighty name
Amen.
