Prayers for the Day, Tuesday

Let us begin our time of prayer today with silence.  Let us focus on  our God and father.  Become aware of our breath, quieten the thoughts in our head and maintain silence.  Let us be  aware of his love for each of us and for everyone both known and unknown to us.  Let us remember to hold the world and its people in our thoughts and prayers as we go through today.

Lord of peace, silence our hearts to hear your will and to live by it today.

We bring those in our family at cornerstone who are unwell before the throne of God.  We think of those who have lost loved ones, such as the family of Elizabeth Oritsejafor and others we may not have heard of.   We pray that your love will surround and comfort those who are grieving and suffering, and those who are under the stress from caring for loved ones.   We pray for those who are in pain, whether physical, mental or emotional and ask that you heal the sick and make your presence known to them.

Lord of the weak,  surround those who suffer and mourn, with your love and comfort.

We thank you that the pandemic appears to be easing and that the majority of those who are getting infected are getting mild symptoms.  We pray that very soon, we can again be free to visit, hold and hug  our loved ones and each other without concern.

Lord of healing,  heal the sick and suffering

We continue to pray for those who lead us and have to make difficult and sometimes unpopular decisions.  Grant them hearts of service and wisdom –  we ask that this is what will drive their deliberations and decisions.  We are full of gratitude for those who shoulder the burden of caring for the sick and vulnerable in society.   We want to also remember those who play key roles but tend to be invisible –  – those who clean, provide security, prepare food, transport what is needed from place to place and so on.  Help us as a society to value each other’s contribution and recognise we need what each of us bring.

Lord of wisdom, grant those that lead your people insight and compassion.

We pray for the weakest and vulnerable in our society especially now as we face the fuel crisis, high inflation and unemployment.   We remember many, child and adults alike who are distressed due to poverty. Lord imbue your people with wisdom and show us all the way to better and equitable living.  Help us to share the resources of the earth so that all people may live health lives. Help us work as stewards of the earth and all that is in it.

Lord of creation, help us to cherish what you have so graciously given to us and care for one another.

As we begin this day, help us to hear your still small voice. Go before us today, so that we can be you eyes, ears, hands and feet so that the world may remember that you live.

Amen.
