Prayers for the Day, Tuesday

Today, as begin the day, let us remind ourselves to start by listening to God. As we wait in this season of advent to see God revealed to us in the humility of a baby born in a manager – let us quieten our hearts and listen to him.  Let us listen to the silence through which the maker of the universe so often chooses to speak.  Let us be still and hear the whisper of his voice to our hearts.  Let us listen.

Lord as we wait, help us to wait with expectancy.  Help us to wait actively.  Like the magi – who waited while travelling to see the King of Kings.  Like the Shepherds who joined in the song of the angels in worship and went to worship Messiah.

Remind us, Lord that true worship is to:
free those who are wrongly imprisoned.
lighten the burden of those around us.
Loosen the bonds of the oppressed,
Remove the chains that bind people.
Share our food with the hungry,
and give shelter to the homeless.
Give clothes to those who need them,
and help those who need our help

Open our eyes to those in our fellowship who are suffering in mind and body this day.  We ask for healing and for your peace.  We pray that you would show us where we can be the answer to our own prayers.  Remind us today and always, to look at the world and each other with the eyes of the Christ child.  Help us to feel with his heart, to touch with his hands.   Help us today to bring anew Christ to a hurting world and bring his healing.

We continue to uphold the leaders in our city, country and the world as they grapple with the many challenges that face your people on earth.  The challenge of climate change, of wars, migration, poverty and diseases of all kinds.  We pray for your continuing wisdom on all who lead.

Lord, hear our prayers today and always.

Amen.
