By Revd George Mwaura Isaiah 55: 10–13; Matthew 13: 1–9 & 18–23 The art of listening Creator God, you who set the stars in the heavens and causes the sun to rise and set, we pray that you will shed the light of your wisdom in the darkness of our collective minds by the power of your...
Gracious God, we thank you that all good gifts come from you.
We thank you for all you have already given us.
And, as the good soil welcomes the seed, and causes it to grow,
we welcome you to take root and flourish in our lives
enabling us to listen, to learn and to act in Jesus’ name.
Amen
Good evening, everyone. As we draw towards the close of the day, I’d like us to begin our prayer time by listening to an evening hymn. Please click on the link below to join in with or listen to the congregation of Durham Road Baptist Church, Gateshead as they sing, ‘The Day Thou Gavest, Lord, is...
Good morning, my friends of Christ the Cornerstone. Rise to meet this fresh new day. The rain is past and nature renewed. Let us praise God with a Psalm: It is good to give thanks to the Lord, to sing psalms to your name, Most High, to declare your love in the morning and your faithfulness...
A reading from Psalm 95 1 Come, let us sing for joy to the Lord; let us shout aloud to the Rock of our salvation. 2 Let us come before him with thanksgiving and extol him with music and song. 3 For the Lord is the great God, the great King above all gods. 4 In his hand are the...
Celebrating Diversity without Addressing Disparity is Hypocrisy We need other human beings to help us to be human. We are made for interdependence, for complementarity. We are made for family, the human family, God’s family. Let us make sure that we value every member of it. Preface by John Sentamu (former Bishop of Birmingham, recently retired...
[There are four separate recordings here for this Service. The first is an audio recording of the first part of the Service. Below that is the text of that part of the Service, so that you can scroll down to follow the words. The sermon is a video, but the text is not available, and concludes...
O God, teach us the hidden wisdom of the Gospel,
so that we may hunger and thirst for holiness,
work tirelessly for peace,
and be counted among those who seek first the blessedness of your kingdom.
We ask this through our Lord Jesus Christ, your Son,
who lives and reigns with you in the unity of the Holy Spirit,
God for ever and ever.
Amen
Good Evening, everybody. Welcome to our Friday evening prayer time. In our church, we often light a candle on the dais or the altar table during services and in normal times, though not at present, candles are available in the chapel for people to light if they wish when they come to pray. Some people find...
On this first Friday morning of the new month, let us raise our eyes and drink deeply of God’s new day. O Lord your glory is revealed in the morning. From the first glint of light on the pink-tinged hydrangea to the gentle whisper of the rising breeze as it stirs the stately bamboo. The...
A reading from the Prophet Isaiah 25 ‘To whom will you compare me? Or who is my equal?’ says the Holy One. 26 Lift up your eyes and look to the heavens: who created all these? He who brings out the starry host one by one and calls forth each of them by name. Because of his great...
How to Have a Good Day Who is the man who desires life, and loves many days, that he may see good? Keep your tongue from evil and your lips from speaking deceit. Depart from evil and do good; seek peace and pursue it. The eyes of the Lord are on the righteous, and His ears...
Good morning, good Cornerstone friends. Are you sparkling, even if it is dull weather and rain today? Welcome to a new month. I hope you are not too jaded to join us in our prayers this morning. The Lord, the mighty God has spoken and called the world from the rising of the sun to its...
Our Gospel reading this morning reminded us of the importance of hospitality, of welcoming strangers. Jesus says that in so doing, we welcome God. At present, we are not able to welcome strangers to our church in the way we have been used to. So it is left to us as individuals to consider how best...
