Good morning to all of you who come to Christ the Cornerstone for prayer as February draws to a close, as the time of seclusion moves on in slow stages towards increasing community. Let us begin with thanks to God who has brought us safely to the light of day, beginning with words from Psalm 22....
A reading from Psalm 22 23 You who fear the Lord, praise him! All you descendants of Jacob, honour him! Revere him, all you descendants of Israel! 24 For he has not despised or scornedthe suffering of the afflicted one; he has not hidden his face from him but has listened to his cry for help. 25 From you...
Second Temptation – To Be Spectacular Matthew 4:5–7 He will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; On their hands they will bear you up, so that you will not dash your foot against a stone. Psalm 91: 11–12 For forty days and forty nights Jesus sleeps under the stars, waking...
Good morning, Cornerstone friends on this day with promise of Spring. The government have outlined a programme to remove the restrictions on movement and meeting together, so it is a day to be thankful. My soul is pining for your salvation; I have hoped in your word. My eyes fail with watching for your word, while...
Good evening, friends. The six suites for unaccompanied cello by J.S. Bach are among the most ingenious and inspired of all his compositions. Written exactly 300 years ago, when Bach was Kappellmeister in Köthen, the single instrumental lines weave a miraculous pattern of implied harmonies and varied colours. The music historian Wilfred Mellers described the suites...

Sometimes, it seems no time at all since Christmas, yet this week we have entered the season of Lent. I wonder what Lent means to you. In my early childhood, it did not mean much to me, but when I attended an Anglican secondary school, we were taught about the church year in our RE lessons....
The beginning of Lent Good morning to you all and welcome to this time of prayer to begin the day. Let’s start with praise to God for his unrelenting goodness to us all. As this day brightens, forcing away the night, we give thanks to God for keeping us safely in sleep and bringing us gently...
A reading from Psalm 25 1 In you, Lord my God, I put my trust. 2 I trust in you; do not let me be put to shame, nor let my enemies triumph over me. 3 No-one who hopes in you will ever be put to shame, but shame will come on those who are treacherous without cause. 4 Show...
The Messiah is Called the Servant ‘Here is my servant, whom I uphold, my chosen one in whom I delight; I will put my Spirit on him, and he will bring justice to the nations In faithfulness he will bring forth justice; he will not falter or be discouraged till he establishes justice on earth.’ Isaiah...
By Revd George Mwaura Joel 2: 12–18 & Mathew 6: 1–7 Merciful God, your Son battled with the powers of darkness, and grew closer to you in the desert. Help us as we hear your message of repentance and returning to you, to use these days of Lent to grow in wisdom and prayer that we...
Good morning to you all on this first day of Lent: a time of self-examination and testing, until 4 April 2021. Have you joined one of the Lent courses? Have you made a promise to yourself to give up any particular food or habit? Let us look at the Bible readings and pray. Have mercy on...
Before the penitential season of Lent begins, we are reminded today of the revelation of God’s glory in Christ on the Feast of Transfiguration – Jesus appears in dazzling white on the mountain with Elijah and Moses (Mark 9, 2–9). The disciples misunderstand, thinking that this is their final destination (Let us make three tabernacles, one...
