Evening Prayer Thursday, 28 January 2021

Good evening friends! Another day comes to an end and as we look forward to presenting our dreams to God and asking him to forgive the wrongs of the day, let us pray together that His Spirit will speak peace to us in our sleep…

Pray with me:
The day is drawing to an end Lord, and I’m ready to turn in. But before I do, I want to thank you for your faithfulness. For all the times when I was not even aware of your help or presence. For the way you worked behind the scenes, all unknown to me. As I close my eyes tonight, I’m praying for loved ones around me, for friends and those who need to know you, Lord. Touch them and help them see who you really are as you grant us all sound sleep.
Amen.

Reading Psalm 91

1 Whoever dwells in the shelter of the Most High will rest in the shadow of the Almighty. 2 I will say of the LORD, “He is my refuge and my fortress, my God, in whom I trust.” 3 Surely he will save you from the fowler’s snare and from the deadly pestilence. 4 He will cover you with his feathers, and under his wings you will find refuge; his faithfulness will be your shield and rampart. 5 You will not fear the terror of night, nor the arrow that flies by day, 6 nor the pestilence that stalks in the darkness, nor the plague that destroys at midday. 7 A thousand may fall at your side, ten thousand at your right hand, but it will not come near you. 8 You will only observe with your eyes and see the punishment of the wicked. 9 If you say, “The LORD is my refuge,” and you make the Most High your dwelling, 10 no harm will overtake you, no disaster will come near your tent. 11 For he will command his angels concerning you to guard you in all your ways; 12 they will lift you up in their hands, so that you will not strike your foot against a stone. 13 You will tread on the lion and the cobra; you will trample the great lion and the serpent. 14 “Because he loves me,” says the LORD, “I will rescue him; I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name. 15 He will call on me, and I will answer him; I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honour him. 16 With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.”

This is a wonderful psalm and it tells us that Gods love and protection are real. We may not always see them or feel them. We might even at times forget they exist, but they do! We might even conclude God has abandoned us in our moments of need like the current Corona virus situation, but his protection and love are real. He never has or ever will abandon his faithful servants who constantly cry out to him. Whatever troubles or misfortunes we find ourselves in, Jehovah is our Rock of refuge from whence we can shelter from the chaos and the pains of this present world.

Prayer:
Lord thank you for your presence with us, thank you for your invisible Shadow that protects us. Thank you that you are all around us and that our future is secure in the plans you have for us. Your words gives us hope when the world around us is all chaos. Help us to see a glimmer of your glory in all the beauty and majesty of your creation and lead us to salvation for victory and salvation belong to you and you alone!
Amen
